sunlight filtering through the trees
例えば、Start your AI journey today.

Make Earth Great Again( 地球を再び偉大に) Send Elon to Mars( イーロンを火星に送れ)
MAGA(Make America Great Again)をもじったも のです。
I got this before Elon went crazy.(イーロンがおかしくなる前に、私はこの車を買った)といっ たステッカーを貼る人があちこちに現れました。

Charlotte: Twenty-five years. That’s a…
Charlotte: Well, it’s impressive.
Bob: Well, you figure you sleep one-third of your life.
Bob: That knocks off eight years of marriage right there.
Bob: So you’re down to 16 and change.
Bob: You’re just a teenager at marriage.
Bob: You can drive it, but there’s still the occasional accident.
Thatknocks off eight years of marriage right there.

Tsukiji Outer Market: 640 stalls in various fields await you.
That he was one of the preeminent intellects in recorded history goes almost without saying; if a person is called “an Einstein” today, he or she is said to be among the most brilliant of the brilliant.
Emperor, Empress Welcome in New Year
The Emperor and Empress, along with other Imperial family members including the Emperor Emeritus and Empress Emerita, held their New Year’ s greetings at the Imperial Palace in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo, on Thursday.
The first of their five scheduled appearances throughout the day, which started 10:10 a.m., was also attended by Princess Aiko, the couple’ s daughter; Crown Prince Akishino, Crown Princess Kiko and their second daughter Princess Kako; and Princess Hanako of Hitachi.
Prince Hitachi refrained from attending the event in consideration of his advanced age. Members of the Takamado and Mikasa Imperial families also did not participate, following the passing of Princess Yuriko of Mikasa in November.
This was the first New Year’ s greetings in two years as it was canceled last year in consideration of the massive Noto earthquake.(出典:1月2日付The Japan News)
Hello Kitty at 50.
How a drawing of a face made up of three circles, six lines, and blank space (oh, and a bow, too) came to rule the world.
There’s something about Hello Kitty. In pop culture years, the character is practically Paleolithic. She debuted during the Ford administration, on a vinyl change purse that retailed for less than a dollar. Sanrio, the company that created her, didn’t think enough of her earning potential at the time to even give her a name. The BBC has described her reductively as a “narrative-free trademarked drawing.” Yet as Hello Kitty turns 50 this year, her button nose, dots for eyes, and matching whiskers form one of the most recognizable faces on earth.(出典:TIME誌ハローキティ生誕50周年記念号)
③ 単純な文章こそ細心の注意を払う a vinyl change purse that retailed for less than a dollarは、「1ドル未満で販売されていたビニールの小銭入れ」と直訳すると、いかにも翻訳調です。

Ageism Ageism, also called age discrimination, is described by the World Health Organization (WHO) as “stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination against people based on their age”.
Quick Tips:
− Don’t use women or an older relative as a substitute for ‘novice’ or ‘beginner’. For example, don’t say “something is so simple to use your mother (or grandpa) could do it”.
− ‘Older persons’ or ‘seniors’ are usually preferred terms over saying ‘the elderly’.
− Avoid negative terms such as ‘over the hill’, ‘little old lady’, ‘grandfathering’, ‘fogey’, or ‘geriatric’.
(出典:Inclusive Language: A Writing Guide on Respecting Diversityより一部抜粋)
novice(初心者)やbeginner(初級者)の代用として、女性や年配者を例に挙げるのはやめましょう。
the elderly(お年寄り)は、older persons(高齢者)やseniors(シニア)に置き換えた方が好ましい表現になります。
over the hill(老いぼれ)、little old lady(お婆さん)、grandfathering(既得権を認める)、fogey(老いぼれ)、geriatric(老人)などのネガティブな表現は避けましょう。
② the elderly、older person、senior……
Commas are separators. Often, a comma indicates a pause. But it’s a mistake to think that the only guideline for using commas is to insert one in any place where a pause would go. For example, compare the following:I talked to my brother Steve. (I have more than one brother.)I talked to my husband, Stan. (I have only one husband.)Both of these can be correct due to the comma’s job of setting off nonrestrictive, that is, nonessential information. For sentences like these, thinking of a comma as merely a pause would lead to errors.

Advocates want work permits for all undocumented immigrants and DACA *applicants, not just migrants
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson met with community groups Thursday who are pushing to extend work permits to all undocumented immigrants, not just migrants.A letter from Mayor Johnson and other American mayors is expected to go to President Joe Biden to get movement on work permits for migrants in coming weeks. Johnson’s office said the letter has the support of some local organizations that want to see legal work options for new residents as well as undocumented residents who have been in the Chicago area for a long time.
*Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals

Eat a good share of fresh vegetables and fruit each day Kick up your heels once in a while
Be curious about everything in life
Keep yourself well-groomed at all times and don‘t forget to wash your ears
Avoid those who growl at you Never take yourself too seriously

Tomita rescued two of her four cats after the quake, but the local evacuation centre in Suzu refused to let her stay with her pets, forcing her to sleep sitting up in a car for a month.
She moved into a pet-friendly evacuation centre that opened on Sunday and slept lying down for the first time in weeks that evening.
“If I hadn’t made it to this centre, I feel I might have buckled” under the mental strain, Tomita said.
Eventually, she wants to move out of the evacuation centre for the freedom of her cats, who now must remain caged or on a leash. But with no word on whether temporary housing will become available to her, she says she has no other option but to stay.
